Even video won't catch it, because the heart of the experience is the immersion in the 3D space. But it does make good eye candy, even if it's not the same thing.

I tell people that a recording of an Odd Ball is like a tape of a Grateful Dead concert. It ain't like being there...:)

Be glad to see you back in the Tunaverse soon!

ShavaShavahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10627239054521159514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18629734.post-8276200117036482952010-01-12T20:24:05.301-05:002010-01-12T20:24:05.301-05:00Hi Shave - thanks for the info on the music. I did exactly what you mentioned - i played my own music.

The visuals were stunning. The pictures hardly do them justice. I dragged a friend along to see it and sent out LM to some others. Hopefully I can catch the show again.

Thanks again..Kim Gregsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09046907490071129982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18629734.post-6068909640527293632010-01-12T19:15:11.823-05:002010-01-12T19:15:11.823-05:00Hi, Kim! This is Shava Nerad, aka Shava Suntzu, Tuna Oddfellow's other half in Second Life.

The music is from SomaFM (http://somafm.com/) - their spacestation channel. People often enough play their own music on their computers if they don't enjoy the music from SomaFM.

We aren't musicians, we're visual artists -- but we feel strongly about creator's rights, and SomaFM is publicly supported Internet radio. We've talked to Rusty who runs the 15 or so streams there, and he gave us explicit permission to use the streams, and we know he's paying all the music creators. In exchange, we promote SomaFM to our audience. But we know it isn't to everyone's taste (really, in any venue, but especially in SL, nothing is! :).

We've done shows to ambient, 80s greatest hits, snarky holiday novelty music, live folk/blues, scratched live techno -- a wide variety of genres. But for our bi-weekly shows on Sundays and Mondays in SL we play Soma, and tell folks if they want, play their favorite music -- the show goes with anything.Shavahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10627239054521159514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18629734.post-85628780425145245412009-11-08T08:47:31.680-05:002009-11-08T08:47:31.680-05:00So, I guess this means that what doesn't kill ...So, I guess this means that what doesn't kill us makes us better game developers....? Let me know what you think.

I like Monkeys on the Moon, BTW. Clever concepts supported by some decent mechanics. Perhaps a bit long for what it is, but well worth a try.

I was at bgg.con as well, and even taught PG Dev Kit to a few folks (as well as my latest game, North Pole, which is supposed to come out some time this winter/spring - or so they tell me).

I also bought Wasabi, which I think is a very solid game. Cities was much buzzed, but I didn't have a chance to play it. I've also heard great things about Code 777, and almost played it at the con, but didn't have a chance to. I've got Gulo Gulo for my 4-year old, and strongly recommend it.

I love Coloretto. A couple other quick card games you may appreciate are Knizia's Money and Bottle Imp (Flaschenteufel on the geek, I think). Bottle Imp is about the most ingenious trick-taking game this side of Tichu. Plays best with 3.

Cheers,
Christopher RaoAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07301834267490602833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18629734.post-58076155568640540592008-07-21T22:45:00.000-04:002008-07-21T22:45:00.000-04:00Good advice...I've got to keep these things in min...Good advice...I've got to keep these things in mind myself.
